7.1 Overview¶
Waypoints are defined areas that can be combined with special rules. Waypoints can be placed at any location and are helpful in numerous use cases. They might define loading areas, in which no open door alarms are set off, or mark a secure parking lot for safe overnight parking with a special rule set.
Waypoints can be created on company, project, supply chain or transport levels. After creation, they can be selected on all subordinate levels.
If a waypoint is created in "Project 1", it is available for use in all supply chains and transports that are part of "Project 1".
A often used waypoint (e.g. a loading area) might best be created on the company level in order for it to be usable in all transports of the company.
A waypoint that was created on a transport can only be used on that transport. After the transport has reached the status "Ended", the waypoint is gone and has to be created again in order to be used.
7.2 Creating Waypoints¶
7.2.1 Opening the Waypoints window¶
In oder to create a new waypoint, first select the level you want to create it on (company, project, supply chain or a specific transport). Next, select the menu item "Settings" in the top left corner of the workspace.
Now select the tab "Waypoints" from the tab bar in the lower part of the workspace.
7.2.2 Creating a Waypoint¶
In the open waypoint tab you will find a list of all available waypoints for the selected level. To create a new one, simply click on the "+" icon.
Enter a (unique) name for the waypoint and an optional description. Confirm your entry by clicking on "Ok". Your new waypoint has been created.
7.2.3 Defining Waypoint boundaries¶
To define where a waypoint starts and ends, first open up the waypoint settings by hovering the mouse pointer over the button in the top left corner of the map.
Enter the address of the waypoint to zoom in and center the map to the general area of the waypoint. Start the search by clicking on the magnifying icon and select the entry you want.
Start by clicking on the map to create the first corner of your waypoint. As soon as you have placed three or more waypoints, the waypoint will be marked to show the selected area.
To define the waypoint further, simply add more corner dots or move existing ones by clicking, holding and dragging them to the desired area on the map.
7.2.4 Saving changes¶
To save any of the previous changes, please click on the save button on the top right corner of the workspace.
7.3 Activation waypoints¶
If a waypoint is supposed to be available in a transport, but was not created in the transport itself (rather on the company, project or supply chain levels), it needs to be activated for the transport level first for clarity reasons. In order to do this, select the waypoint in the supply chain of the transport by ticking the check mark in front of it in the waypoint list.
Confirm the selcetion by clicking on the check mark icon below the geofence list.
This has to happen before the transport is created in order to be able to select the geofence within the transport.
By using this method, all important waypoints can be set up once on company or project level and subsequently be made available on lower levels when needed. At the same time clarity and order is maintained, even with large amounts of waypoints, while not sacrificing flexibility because only relevant waypoints will be shown when creating transports.
7.4 Selecting Waypoints¶
To select a geofence within a transport, first make sure that the geofence has been activated on the superior levels if it hasn't been created within the transport itself.
Then select the transport in the navigation bar. Now select the menu item "Settings" from the menu bar in the top part of the workspace. Next, select the tab "Waypoints" from the tab bar in the lower part of the workspace.
In the now opened waypoints tab you will have a list of all available waypoints. To add one or more of them to the transport, simply check the little box in front of it. Deselect any unwanted waypoints and confirm your selection by clicking on the check mark icon below the list.
