6. Geofences

6.1 Geofences

Geofences are routes that can be assigned to transports. If the transport leaves the route set by the geofence an alarm is sent.
Geofences can be created on company, project, supply chain or transport level. If they are created on a higher level, they can be made available (activated) for any subordinate level.

If a geofence was created in "Project 1", it can be made available for all supply chains and transports of "Project 1".

An often used geofence can be set up on the company level and then applied to any transports that use it.

A geofence that is created on transport level can only be used for that specific transport and will not be available afterwards, i.e has to be created from scratch.

6.2 Creating Geofences

6.2.1 Opening the Geofence tab

To create a geofence, first select the Level of your choice (company, project, supply chain or individual transport).
Next, select the menu item "Settings" in the menu bar in the upper part of the workspace. Then select the tab "Geofences" in the lower part of the workspace.

6.2.2 Creating a new Geofence

In the opened geofence tab you will find an overview of all existing and available geofences. To create a new one simply click on the "+" symbol on the bottom left.

Enter a distinct name and an optional description for it. Click on "Ok" to create the new geofence. Your new geofence has been created.

6.2.3 Defining the Route

To define a route, open the geofence settings by hovering the cursor over the grey button in the top left corner of the map.

Enter the starting address in the first and the address of the destination into the second field. Once you click on the magnifier symbol, the system will check if it recognizes a city and a street and will give you options to select from by simply clicking on them.

Once the geofence consists of two addresses it will automatically create a route between them.

If you want to change the routing you can click anywhere on the map you want the transport to pass through. A new point will be created. You can change the order in witch the transport should pass through any points by hovering over them in the route planner on the left and changing their position by using the "Up" and "Down" buttons that will appear. The route will be changed accordingly.

6.2.4 Setting a Limit (width of a geofence)

By increasing the limit (width) of a route you are defining how far a transport may be off route before an alarm is set off. Since the quality of the position determination may not be of consistent quality (e.g. not optimal GPS signal) the actual position of the transport may be slightly off of the actual position. To combat an excessive amount of false alarms it is recommended to set the limit to about 1000-1500m.

6.2.5 Saving Changes

To save any changes click on the "Save" button to the right and above the geofence settings first.

6.3 Activating Geofences

If a geofence is supposed to be available in a transport, but was not created in the transport itself (rather on the company, project or supply chain levels), it needs to be activated for the transport level first for clarity reasons. In order to do this, select the geofence in the supply chain of the transport by ticking the check mark in front of it in the geofence list.

Confirm the selcetion by clicking on the check mark icon below the geofence list.

This has to happen before the transport is created in order to be able to select the geofence within the transport.

By using this method, all important geofence can be set up once on company or project level and subsequently be made available on lower levels when needed. At the same time clarity and order is maintained, even with large amounts of geofences, while not sacrificing flexibility because only relevant geofences will be shown when creating transports.

6.4 Selecting Geofences

To select a geofence within a transport, first make sure that the geofence has been activated on the superior levels if it hasn't been created within the transport itself.
Then select the transport in the navigation bar. Now select the menu item "Settings" from the menu bar in the top part of the workspace. Next, select the tab "Geofences" from the tab bar in the lower part of the workspace.
In the now opened geofence tab you will have a list of all available geofences. To add one or more of them to the transport, simply check the little box in front of it. Deselect any unwanted geofences and confirm your selection by clicking on the check mark icon below the list.
